How to Light a Fire Under Your Blog

Light a FireWhen I first started blogging I totally sucked. I had no idea how to light a fire under my blog.

The reason for that may have been that I was copying and pasting from my MLM’s newsletter. (Not recommended)

I had no idea how to write, I had no idea what I wanted to blog about. I was part of the network marketing industry and I was told that if I wanted to stand out I needed a blog.

So like many of you I turned to the free blogging platforms. It didn’t cost me anything… so why not?

Three months later I was banned from the free blogging platform because I violated their policy rules. YIKES!

I had less than 24 hours to move all my content off their site and get it on a self hosted site! I scoured the web looking for how to do this.

YouTube was not much help, so I did a Hail Mary! I found a place to buy my domain and get it hosted… today I recommend JustHost.com

Now I had a site… but now what?! Lighting a fire under my blog was just not happening!

How to Light the Fire

So after many years failing at my blog… meaning I barely wrote and had no passion about my content. Had 6 different domains and blogs.

I discovered the secret ingredient for lighting a fire under my blog. Here are my 3 of my 6 secrets….

  1. What do you want to be known for beyond your MLM company?
  2. What is the most common problem and how to solve it.
  3. What two reasons do people go to the internet for?

So let me take a moment and break down these three secrets a bit more.

What do you want to be know for? This one stumped me for a long time. Being in the wellness industry of MLM, I thought I should talk about fitness and health. I thought I had to focus on the stories and the products. But it just didn’t feel right to me. Something was missing.

I did everything from create recipes for my companies products, re-posted new article and other stuff. Yet I wonder why I wasn’t getting leads or finding new distributors. I was writing for those already in the biz! Not a brilliant idea. 🙂

So what do you want to be known for? Who do you want to help? This is going to help you in the long run develop your niche.

Next, what is the most common problem? What questions are you asked the most? What does your downline struggle with? What do you struggle with?

This is going to give you a list of blog post you can write about. Become the problem solver. Even if you are just starting out, right now you know a bit more then the person that is searching online. This is one of the biggest secrets for most leaders. They began by taking action. They studied, learned, and applied.

By apply, I mean they went out and took action… they taught what they just learned with their own interpretation. This happens every day… even right now. You could take what you just learned and turn around and write a blog post on it. I just ask that you give credit to where you got your information from.

Last but not least, two reasons that people search the internet. I call it the 2 E’s.

  1. Education
  2. Entertainment

So if you know that you are currently searching the web and reading this post… Well, then I have hit one of the two reasons people go online. If I have entertained you then I am two for two! Awesome!

So you can light a fire under your blog by following your passion and provide a solution. These are 3 of the 6 keys to success. If you want to know the other 3 keys, click on this link and check out this webinar. Blogging Ingredients

      Hi Katrina,

Man do I ever understand what you’re saying here. I was in and out of MLM companies because I was just not learning the proper methods to approach people and I just didn’t have a good feeling about what they were teaching me to do.

When I got into blogging I was doing affiliate marketing and just writing about the benefits of that but that didn’t go very well either. Once I started sharing more about what I was learning I realized how many people are blogging that are searching for the same information.

Like Ryan said, if you educate and entertain them then they’ll be by often. I find that to be true for me and I do love helping and sharing so that sticks out with my readers as well.

Great tips and glad you found your place. I think we all have to take the time to find where we belong but the trip is still really worth it.

      Hope you’re enjoying your week.

Hi Adrienne! You are a rock star. I love reading your blog and the insight you share.

It did take a while to find my voice and discover how to share and give back. But that is the beauty of blogging. Overtime you can find your voice and your purpose.

We have a very similar that we have traveled. We should do a hangout together and share our combined knowledge. I think that would be fantastic! We will chat soon!

      Hi Katrina,

E and E, dead on. People want solutions. Solutions are educating, and entertaining, and if you nail down both E’s you will become rich through your blogging exploits.

I doubled down on posting travel pics recently. Tons of educating but not enough entertaining on my blog until a few weeks back.

Now I am back to selling the dream; my readers, cash gifting team and social networking buddies appreciate this.

      Thanks for sharing Katrina!
