What WordPress Plugin is Recommended?

By far the #1 recommended plugin that you need for SEO is….

WordPress SEO by Yoast

This SEO plugin not only lets you edit the 5 key elements of SEO but has tons of other features:

  • Create sitemap
  • Creates Breadcrumb Navigation
  • Social Integration
  • RSS Optimization
  • and more

This is a must have plugin for any blogger. Heck I use this plugin to make sure my SEO is on track!

Now Lets Discover the “On Page SEO” 5 Key Elements

1. Optimize the Slug

This is a key element that is often over looked. Once you create your post make sure that your slug contains your keyword or keyword phrase.

WARNING: Make sure this is correct before you publish. And don’t change after you publish unless you have a redirect. The is the key ingredient to getting your content found online. Don’t break this link!

2. On Page SEO Your Content

Use your keywords naturally through out your blog. Don’t force the use of the word or phrase.

With the Google hummingbird algorithm update, feel free to use variations of the keywords by creating synonyms and the order in which keywords exist.

Be warned don’t over use it to the point where you scare your readers off because the content is so dense with your keywords.

Use in naturally and if you can’t… maybe you need to rethink your keyword.

3. Optimize Your Images

It is important that you do a couple of things with your image.

  • make sure the raw file has the keyword before you upload it to your site
  • use alt. text and add your keyword there after you upload the file to your site

The reason for this is that Google looks for all items on your page to be congruent. By adding pictures with your keyword, strengthens your impression with the search engines.

4. Optimize the Tag Title

The tag title is what is predominately displayed by the search engines.

A key recommendation is that your keyword appear first in your title. If you can’t make that happen don’t stress it. Just make sure it’s in the title tag.

One of the cool things about the WordPress SEO by Yoast is that you can edit this if you need to. 🙂

5. Optimize Meta Description

Your meta description is what appears under your Tag Headline in the search engines and on social media.

The one thing you want to remember is to make sure your keyword is present in this description also.

Now this may all seem like overkill to the average blogger but if you want to be found online these are key elements that you need to have with EACH blog post your write.
