Blog Help: What is SEO?
So I have been throwing around the word SEO like it is candy until one of my friends asked, “What is SEO?”
Slam on the brakes! What?
You don’t know what SEO is?????
Well crap, neither did I a couple of years ago. Heck I would have to say that I am still learning SEO because Google loves to change their analytic’s for how content is searched.
But SEO is both organic and paid expose for your web site. You can either attract people to your blog or you can pay to get them there. So lets just keep this simple and focus on what is SEO.
So let me break down what is SEO
First off SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.
And you maybe thinking… yea.. and?
Have you ever gone on Google and searched for something? Been on Youtube recently to figure out how to do something?
Well, when you type in your question or inquiry you are creating something called a keyword or long tail keyword phrase.
For the blogger our job is to create content that gets us in front of you. We answer questions and solve problems.
So we look to write headlines and content that the search enginge will find relevant to your search.
This is just a small part of what is SEO. There’s a lot more to it but this is the basics.
SEO is very important to a blogger and anyone that’s marketing on the internet. You have to know your audience and write with purpose. I created a post about posting with purpose because it is crucial to your success.
Your goal with your blog is to create relevant content and consistency. Don’t create a blog about finances and then talk about your dog and what he dug up in the yard.
I came across a blog today and at first glance I thought it was going to give me tips on saving money and creating a budget. I was sorely disappointed when the blog post was about the top 10 movies to fall asleep to.
There is no relevance and I doubt that search engines will share their content or even give them ranking. Talk about not being inline with your blog.
So a word of caution, creating a blog has to have a purpose and to find that purpose you need to do some research.

As more bloggers are entering the Internet Marketing Space, understanding SEO is key. Well done in educating people on the value in SEO.
Thank you Karl! My goal is to always keep it simple and be direct. 🙂
I don’t pay much attention (or rather, any attention) to SEO, and I guess I probably should! Luckily I do stay on topic, so that’s a start.
Such an important piece to blogging. If you are not writing content to be found… why are you blogging? But I am excited that you are at least staying on topic! You get bonus points for that!
