Blog Help: Choosing a Domain

Choosing a domainDoes the thought of choosing the WRONG domain keep your from creating your blog?

If it makes you feel better I have had about 5 different domain names and blogs. Heck I even have friends that collect domains just for fun. They have an idea, go see if the domain is available and buy it. Crazy but true.

I had a domain for Metabolic Syndrome Family… Don’t ask… sounded great… and then, not so much. I had one for healthy living… I discovered I am not extremely passionate about writing about eating healthy. I would rather just live the life style. I had one for Mentor and Support… Good concept but I just didn’t have focus. And the list could go on but I won’t bore you with those details.

So here is the thing… Choose your domain and just run with it. I always recommend 1 year of hosting so that if you do change your mind you are not locked into your domain.

Another thing… you can always redirect your old blog to your new blog.

The most successful blog domain name for me has been my own. Why? Because as I evolve so does my blog and that is okay. I am not tied into a keyword domain. If you are looking to purchase a domain and hosting site I do recommend JustHost.com

When you use your name, if something should happen and you are no longer with your network marketing company… you can change a link… change a category and you are off and running with your new business.

In this video I share some great tips for choosing a domain and how to make it work for you.

That’s the prime reason that I haven’t moved off of Blogger, yet. 🙂

Just had a training class last night with my blogging students. This was a huge hangup for them. But they broke through and are now on their way! Thank you so much for commenting!

Picking a name for your business can be tricky. One of my friend thought of hosting wedding and at different times change her domain name.
It takes time to connect your business to the name it’s given.
I’m starting to reestablish my ceramic line and I give it the name of “Nice and Nifty Stuff” which I’m not prisoner to one line….Maratha Stewart isn’t locked into anyone item. She didn’t happen over nite.

Totally agree. I like the name Nice and Nifty Stuff! I wish you the best! And I tend to find that if you do use your name as you evolve… so does your product or blog and people accept that. Thank you for commenting.
